Tour to Hogsback and Bedford
Once again, in 2018 Traveltime will be going to Hogsback but this year we are combining our tour to Hogsback with the annual Bedford Garden Festival! We fly into Port Elizabeth where we will collect our coach and then travel by road to Hogsback, a more acceptable 260kM. (Rather than the LONG road trip Cape Town to Hogsback 958km). Spring, of course, is ‘the’ time when Hogsback puts on its prettiest clothes and it will astound you with flowers and beauty. Lilies grow everywhere and all their gardens are a paradise of colours. Of course, the Bedford Garden Festival is equally well-known for the natural beauty of the gardens (predominately large farm gardens). “Come to Bedford for more open gardens, plant nurseries, two market hubs, lots of shopping, live music, warm hospitality and the scrumptious food for which we are known”. Day 1: Tuesday 16th October (Dinner inc) Following our mid morning flight, our arrival in Hogsback will be mid afternoon. Settle into your home for the next 3 nights – The Arminel Cottages situated in central Hogsback. They are nestled in the natural setting of the famous Hogsback mountains, with a tarred road leading up to the entrance and surrounded by some of the Eastern Cape’s most beautiful indigenous forests, inspiring waterfalls and colourful gardens. Settle in and enjoy dinner at the Arminel Hotel. Day 2: Wednesday 17th October (Breakfast / Dinner) After breakfast we will go down to the Visitors Info centre, where, at 09h30 we will be taken on a guided tour of two beautiful Spring Gardens, where you can see Camellias & Rhododendrons; enjoy and be inspired! There will be a lunch stop in one of the local restaurants. This afternoon will be spent exploring The Eco-Shrine on a guided-tour. Dinner tonight will be at one of the local restaurants in Hogsback. Day 3: Thursday 18th October (Breakfast / Dinner) There are many very beautiful gardens in the Hogsback area. We will meander through one or two this morning before enjoying a light lunch in town. The Labyrinth at The Edge hotel is a good place to spend an hour or two and there are several crafters worthy of a visit. Dinner tonight will be at the Arminel Hotel. Day 4: Friday 19th October (Breakfast / Dinner) After breakfast we head down to Adelaide (93km) The Bedford Garden Festival starts today so, we will start our ’exploring’! We check into our accommodation in the late afternoon - Midgley’s Hotel dating back to 1858! Day 5: Saturday 20th October (Breakfast / Dinner) Today, is the second day of the Bedford Garden Festival and we will have more than enough to keep us occupied the whole day! In addition to the gardens we will try to add a visit to the nationally renowned butterfly collection at the Huntley Glen Farm ; & a visit to the two ‘market hubs’ Day 6: Sunday 21st October (Breakfast) There is usually a concert in one of the gardens today - further information will be given once it is available! We will schedule our flight back to Cape Town late on Sunday afternoon giving us all the chance to some more ‘garden visits’ before we head back home filled with a wonderful sense of peace after having spent 5 days at peace with Nature!
