Description

A lecture by John Rourke of the Botanical Institute on Thunberg and Sparrman, two 18th century botanical explorers at the Cape. This overview investigates the work and findings of two 18th century medical graduates, Carl Peter Thunberg and Anders Sparrman who undertook extensive journeys of exploration in the Cape. Both published travel journals revealing important data on the natural history of the region, the indigenous peoples and the early frontier farmers.
