• Junior Coastal Forest Conservation Officer
• This is a permanent position situated in the greater Durban area

Requirements:
• An appropriate Degree/ Diploma in Nature conservation, Environmental management, Natural/ Biological Sciences, Natural Resource Management or any related field of study.
• Current understanding of biological importance of fauna & flora within the coastal forest areas of the KZN region, knowledge of pesticide and herbicide application.
• 1 – 2 Years’ experience in a similar position (with traceable references) - this will be advantageous
• Knowledge of biodiversity management, AIS identification, management & eradication methods
• In-depth knowledge of current environmental legislature and thorough understanding of the OHSA (85 of 1993)
• Basic horticultural knowledge and practices, plant propogation, ISO & environmental management systems are advantageous
Other:
• Code 8 driving licence with experience of hauling a light weight trailer.
• Must reside in the Durban area or within proximity of the specified area.
Duties & Responsibilities:
• Daily planning and managing of staff & ensuring that works orders are carried out in an efficient and effective manner
• Managing and maintenance of on-site & off-site machinery, tools & equipment
• Providing daily, weekly, monthly and annual work schedules and reports
• Ensuring Health & Safety regulations are followed by all staff on team
• The successful incumbent must be able to compile documented reports on current status of environment and derive sustainable measures of conservation
• Coastal Forest assessment as to biodiversity conservation hot-spots regarding the threat status criteria, and development of sound conservation strategies
• Promote environmental principles and practices such as on site organic waste disposal etc,
• Liaising with clientele from time to time and providing feedback to any particular work-related request from clients
• Ability to develop a business plan for coastal forests, building on previous work, that shows how to manage the existing
